SINCE its establishment in 1869, the Rockhampton Zoo has become a much-loved part of our community. Nestled in the beautiful Botanic Gardens, the Zoo has served our community well as both a tourist attraction and educational facility.
Many local residents, as well as people in outlying communities that use Rockhampton as their regional hub, have fond memories of the zoo and I am certainly no exception.
Growing up in Rockhampton, I have spent many hours enjoying this community attraction and have wonderful memories of time spent with my children as they have explored and delighted in the many sights and experiences the Zoo has to offer.
Over the years, the zoo has undergone numerous changes, with exotic animals joining their native counterparts on a site that Council is committed to preserving for future generations.
The zoo is a true asset for our region and I am looking forward to hearing the community's thoughts on how it should look in the years to come.
