The Rockhampton Zoo is located within the Botanic Gardens and can be accessed via Spencer or Ann Street, Rockhampton.

Bird Flight Avairy

The aviaries are home to many colourful birds including the dazzling king parrots, Major Mitchell and black cockatoos. The main aviary has a walk-in raised pathway, which leads you through the flight path of the birds.

From this height you can really appreciate the different varieties, with their detailed markings and vibrant colours.

Dingoes

Australia's native dog, the Dingo, will serenade you with their melodious "howl." These shy, yet inquisitive animals can often be seen emerging from their dens to greet visitors passing their enclosure.

Freshwater Crocodiles

The crocodile enclosures are home to both species of crocodile found in Australia. The Fresh and Estuarine Crocodiles can be viewed lazing in the sun one moment, and in an instant becoming ferocious predators, quickly devouring their meals during feeding times.

Kangaroos & Wallabys

Kangaroos and wallabies love to greet you on your visit to the Zoo. The Agile Wallabies and Eastern Grey Kangaroos freely roam around their grass paddocks and lie leisurely in the sun, soaking up their relaxing surrounds. Keep an eye out for the gorgeous young joeys, either in the pouch or close to their mothers.

Koalas

Take a stroll through our koala exhibit. The exhibit provides a rare opportunity to sneak a close-up look at these laid back animals in their natural environment. While the koalas love to sleep, be delighted by witnessing their daily indulgence of fresh eucalyptus leaves during feeding time, held daily at 3.20pm.

Primates

Monkey around with Cassie and Ockie, our chimpanzees- they love to play and entertain you. The chimps are brothers and their playful antics highlight their intelligent nature and vibrant personalities. Cassie and Ockie provide an excellent opportunity for you to see how chimpanzees naturally gather and forage.

Snakes

Rockhampton Zoo proudly exhibits many of our local non venomous snakes.

Southern Hairy Nosed Wombats

The Rockhampton Zoo is host to the largest captive colony of Southern Hairy Nosed Wombats in the world at the Wombat Research Centre. Here the Zoo participates in research programs that will hopefully lead to the survival of the Northern Hairy Nosed Wombat species.
