Rockhampton Zoo is home to variety of snakes, lizards, monitors, crocodiles and frogs.

Head along to the Australian Dry Eucalyptus zone to see:

  • Eastern bearded dragon (Pogona barbata)
  • Eastern blue tongue lizard (Tiliqua scincoides scincoides)
  • Frill neck lizard (Chlamydosaurus kingii)
  • Jungle carpet python (Morelia spilota cheynei)
  • Lace monitor (Varanus varius)
  • Perentie (Varanus giganteus)
  • Boyd's Forest Dragons (Hypsilurus boydii)

Unfortunately our snake exhibit sustained significant damage during Tropical Cyclone Marcia in 2015. While our snakes were not harmed, we are in the process of redeveloping the area for all to enjoy. Visit our jungle python as you leave the Australian Rainforest Aviary or stay on the look out for our roving Zoo Keepers, who will often 'take the snakes' for a walk each day. If you spot them, grab the opportunity to get up close and even touch one of Australia's prehistoric beauties! Snakes housed at Rockhampton Zoo include:

  • Coastal carpet python (Morelia spilota mcdowelli)
  • Olive python (Liasis olivaceus)
  • Spotted python (Antaresia maculosa)
  • Stimson's python (Antaresia stimsoni)
  • Water python (Liasis fuscus)
  • Woma python (Aspidites ramsayi)
