Otter Encounter

Meet Tomio and Misumi — Rockhampton Zoo’s playful Asian small‑clawed otters!

Please note: You will not enter the otter enclosure. All feeding takes place from outside the exhibit, behind the mesh.

Quick Details

Age: 8 years and over-Under 16s must be accompanied by an adult (aged 18+) who is also a paying participant.

Days: Monday, Tuesday, Friday and Sunday

Duration: Approximately 20 minutes (including collection and safety brief)

Cost: $55 per person

Group size: Up to 2 participants

When: 2pm on Monday, Tuesday, Friday and Sunday (including all public holidays apart from Christmas Day.)

Location: Arrive at the 'Meet here for Otter Encounters' sign 5 minutes prior to the encounter time (between Meerkats and Chimps). - please ensure you allow sufficient parking time.

What to Wear and Bring

Closed in shoes are required - not thongs or sandals
If you would like photos, bring a suitable device, such as a mobile phone or small camera and a keeper will take photos on your own mobile device.

Before You Book!

Please be aware that Ticket sales close at 7am the morning of the encounter!
This encounter is not advisable for people with seafood allergies.
Participants must be able to speak and understand English or be accompanied by a translator who is a paying participant in the encounter.
Rockhampton Regional Council and Rockhampton Zoo do not take any responsibility for any injuries or illnesses sustained by any of the participants, whether caused as a result of the animal encounter or as a result of being in the animal enclosure.
Participants who do not abide by these entry requirements will not be entitled to reschedule or to a refund.

Accessibility

Standard Otter Encounters are not suitable for guests with mobility difficulties due to stairs and limited space at the feeding area. For accessibility advice, please contact Rockhampton Zoo or call Rockhampton Regional Council customer service.
