Do you love sitting and watching the cheeky otters, Tomio and Misumi play, and wish you could get closer?

Well now you can by booking a moment with these adorable creatures at Rockhampton Zoo.  Be prepared for some fun and games.

Meet Tomio and Misumi through the mesh and give them afternoon tea while having a private keeper talk to learn more about these playful creatures. 

You will not be in with the Otters, feeding will take place from outside their enclosure, behind the mesh.

Please note: This encounter is not advisable for persons with seafood allergies.  

If you would like photos during your Otter experience, please bring a suitable device, such as a mobile phone or small camera.

During the experience, a Rockhampton Zoo keeper or accompanying adult will take photos on your own mobile device.

Otter experiences are available on Monday, Tuesday, Friday and Sunday, including all public holidays apart from Christmas Day.

Otter experiences take place at 2.00pm. 

Experience duration: Approximately 20 minutes (including collection and safety brief)

Experience location: Participants are to meet the Zookeepers at the 'Meet here for Otter Encounters sign, which is located past the Chimp enclosure at the bottom of the path leading to the Meerkat enclosure. From here, the keepers will walk you over to the otter enclosure. Participants must be at meeting point at least 5 minutes prior to their encounter time. The keepers will meet you there shortly after.  Parking is limited in school holidays so please ensure you allow sufficient time as the encounter will continue at the scheduled time.

Maximum participants:  Two participants per experience.

Minimum age: 8 years old. Under 16s must be accompanied by an adult (aged 18+) who does not have to be paying participant.

Dress code: Participants must wear fully enclosed shoes (not thongs or sandals). 

Accessibility: Standard Otter experiences are not suitable for guests with mobility difficulties due to the requirement to climb stairs and the space in experience area. Please email Rockhampton Zoo or call Rockhampton Regional Council customer service to seek further advice. 

Language: Participants must be able to speak and understand English or be accompanied by a translator who does not have to be a paying participant in the encounter.

Covid-19: When visiting the zoo, you must comply with all Queensland Government COVID-19 requirements.

Participants who do not abide by these entry requirements will not be entitled to reschedule or to a refund.

Rockhampton Regional Council, Rockhampton Zoo, Rockhampton Regional Councils’ officers, employees and volunteers do not take any responsibility for any injuries or illnesses sustained by any of the participants, whether caused as a result of the animal encounter or as a result of being in the animal enclosure.
