Education
Education is at the heart of Rockhampton Zoo.
Visitors are encouraged to explore the peaceful surroundings and learn about each animal through the educational signage located at every enclosure. Those seeking a deeper understanding can attend a Keeper Talk, where knowledgeable keepers share insights into animal behaviour, care, and conservation. These sessions also provide an opportunity for guests to ask questions and engage directly with the zoo’s team.
Rockhampton Regional Council provides a selection of online self‑guided tours for Rockhampton Zoo, the Botanic Gardens, and other notable sites across the region.
Learning continues long after the visit! Guests can follow the Rockhampton Zoo Facebook page for updates, stories, and behind‑the‑scenes content. Also available are Animal Information Sheets, offering detailed facts about the species housed at the zoo. For those unable to attend an on‑site Keeper Talk, a selection of Online Keeper Talks is available, allowing visitors to enjoy educational content from anywhere.
Rockhampton Zoo also supports broader learning through its dedicated programs. The Youth Program provides hands‑on opportunities for young people interested in animal care, conservation, and the environment, helping them build skills and deepen their understanding of wildlife. The zoo’s Conservation Events introduce participants to key environmental themes and highlight the important role zoos play in protecting species.
