Snake Encounter

Q) What quiet creature makes you jump if it slides into your path?

A)  A snake of course

Why not come and find out about these misunderstood favourites of the Rockhampton Zoo, with a Snake Encounter.

Meet one of our adorable Pythons and  maybe even hold one, while learning all about their quirky natures and why they are an important part of our natural environment.

Snake Encounters are available at 10.30am on Saturdays and Sundays, including all public holidays apart from Christmas Day.

Photos: If you would like photos during your Snake Encounter, please bring a suitable device, such as a mobile phone or small camera.

During the experience, you can ask a friend to take photos on your own mobile device.  Zookeepers will not be able to take photos for you.

Experience duration: This experience will vary depending on how many guests attend.

Experience location: Participants are to meet the Zookeeper, at the 'Meet here for your Snake Encounter' sign, at the Koala / Wombat area.  Participants must be at meeting point at least 5 minutes prior to their encounter time. The Zookeeper for this experience will do a 5 minute talk on snakes, then paying encounter participants will be invited to hold a snake and have their photo taken.   Parking is limited in school holidays so please ensure you allow sufficient time as the encounter will continue at the scheduled time.

Maximum participants:  8 participants per experience.

Minimum age: Although there is no minimum age limit for a Snake Encounter we do not recommend anyone under the age of 3 take part.  However we are happy for an under 3 to join in with a paying adult.  Under 16s must be accompanied by an adult (aged 18+) who does not have to be paying participant.

Accessibility: Standard snake encounters are fully assessable experiences but we ask that you email Rockhampton Zoo or call Rockhampton Regional Council customer service to seek further advice to make your experience an even better one.

Language: Participants must be able to speak and understand English or be accompanied by a translator who is a paying participant in the encounter.

Covid-19: When visiting the zoo, you must comply with all Queensland Government COVID-19 requirements.

Participants who do not abide by these entry requirements will not be entitled to reschedule or to a refund.

Rockhampton Regional Council, Rockhampton Zoo, Rockhampton Regional Councils’ officers, employees and volunteers do not take any responsibility for any injuries or illnesses sustained by any of the participants, whether caused as a result of the animal encounter or as a result of being in the animal enclosure.
