Seniors Connect with Conservation at Rockhampton Zoo
Rockhampton Zoo has launched a warm and engaging initiative designed to bring local seniors closer to wildlife through bi‑monthly Seniors Events. These relaxed mornings offer a unique chance to learn about the zoo’s animals while contributing directly to their care and wellbeing.
What to Expect
Keeper Talk
Each event begins with an informal presentation from one of the zoo’s knowledgeable keepers. Guests enjoy insights into animal behaviour, conservation efforts, and the key role enrichment plays in keeping animals active, curious, and mentally stimulated.
Hands‑On Enrichment Activity
Participants then engage in a creative enrichment workshop. Seniors work together to craft simple items such as puzzle feeders, scent objects or creative food treats that will later be given to the Zoo’s animals. These encourage animals to forage, explore, and interact with their environment—making a real difference to their daily lives.
Relax & Connect
The morning concludes with light refreshments and time to chat with zoo staff and fellow attendees. It is a lovely opportunity to ask questions, share stories, and build community connections.
