Volunteer your time

People interested in volunteering at Rockhampton Zoo bring compassion, personal interest in animals and a wide variety of skills. There are many roles for volunteers and we strive to create a match that meets the needs of our programs, and facilitates a positive volunteer experience. You will also work within a great team of passionate and positive zookeepers. We are looking for people 18 years and over to support the current staff to complete animal and support duties including food preparation, cleaning of enclosures, mowing and whipper snipping.

Please note, volunteers will have limited contact with animals and will not assist on keeper rounds involving chimpanzees or crocodiles. This is to ensure the safety of all staff and volunteers.

Volunteers are welcome every day of the week, including weekends. We do ask for a regular commitment e.g. Every Friday, as we plan daily tasks around volunteer attendance. A minimum of one day per week is preferred (you can do more if you wish), but we can offer once a fortnightly also. Volunteering times are as follows: • 8.00am – 1.00pm, • 1.30pm – 5.00pm, • 8.00am – 5.00pm.
