Volunteer at the Zoo

Volunteer your time

People interested in volunteering at Rockhampton Zoo bring compassion, personal interest in animals and a wide variety of skills.

There are many roles for volunteers at Rockhampton Zoo, and we strive to create a match that meets the needs of our programs, and facilitates a positive volunteer experience. You will also work within a great team of passionate and positive zoo keepers. We are looking for people 16 years and over to support the team to complete animal and support duties, including food preparation, making enrichment items for animals, cleaning of enclosures, helping to walk the dingos, mowing and whipper snipping.

Please note, volunteers will have limited contact with animals, and must follow the instructions and guidance of zoo keepers at all times. This is to ensure the safety of all staff and volunteers.

Volunteers are welcome every day of the week, including weekends. We do ask for a regular commitment (e.g. every Friday), as we plan daily tasks around volunteer attendance. A minimum of one day per week is preferred (you can do more if you wish), but we can also offer once a fortnight. Volunteering times are as follows: • 8.30am – 1.00pm, • 1.00pm – 5.00pm, • 8.30am – 5.00pm.
